The Physio-Coach

THE BENEFITS OF THE PHYSIO-COACH

IT MAY BE A CLICHE, BUT THAT DOESN'T MAKE IT ANY LESS TRUE, PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE

In any sport that requires technical movements, injuries occur. These are usually due to incorrect technique or over-zealous lifting before an athlete is ready for the weight. The ability to coach from a physiotherapist’s point of view certainly aids in preventing injuries from occurring. While most coaches are skilled and trained in their field, this additional medical approach enables the prevention of injury by limiting irregular movements and their dire consequences. Being at the site of potential damage means the physio-coach can stop injuries, or limit their effect.

IF YOU CAN'T PREVENT, CURE, IMMEDIATELY!

Ever completed a lift, felt something tweak, put on your “big girl panties” and carried on? “I’ll book with the physio next week if it’s still sore.” Yes? You aren’t alone – athletes don’t want to stop doing what they love, they don’t want to feel weak and they don’t want to admit defeat. However, immediate action often prevents an injury from developing into something that requires rehabilitation or extended time off. Having a physio-coach onsite means that injuries can be managed as they occur; the physio-coach can speak with medical authority, advising the athlete on the best way forward and avoiding further damage. This means less time off and less need for drastic treatment measures, leading to happier athletes.

REHABILITATION IS ESSENTIAL IN HEALING

The most depressing part about rehab is being removed from the Box that you love training in, separated from the community that drives you to better yourself, leaving you feeling isolated, demotivated and miserable. When your coach is your physiotherapist, this isn’t necessary. CrossFit is supposed to be scaleable, adaptable and universal. This is made possible, even in rehabilitation, with a physio-coach that can adapt every workout to suit any athlete’s needs. This means that athletes are more likely to stick to their rehab programmes, getting them back to peak physical and mental fitness faster, without cutting corners that could affect their health.
